Youth participants spend 3 weeks learning about and cultivating their resumes. Resume writing is a lifelong skill as they constantly need to be updated as one progresses in their field. Participants will gain an understanding of what a resume is, its purpose and what employers would like to see on one. We begin our session with a pre-assessment to see where youth’s knowledge is when it comes to resumes. Students will view example resume templates, be able to fill out their own templates; including their skills, work history, and summary. They then go through peer and instructor reviews before finalizing their document. To wrap up, students will then complete mock interviews. During said interviews, youth participants then have the chance to practice their public speaking skills and cultivate classic interview question responses that showcase who they are in a professional manner.
Our Scholarship Writing Workshop is catered towards our sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Our goal is to show students the abundance of opportunities they have in order to get college paid for without falling into debt. Scholarships give students in under-served communities the ability to seek higher education. We recognize that some of our students need assistance when it comes to having the necessary writing and grammar skills it takes to succeed in higher education. Due to this fact, our scholarship course also goes over the basics you’d learn in english during high school. We cover the classic 5 paragraph essay, what each section should look like and include. We practice grammar rules and work on elevating students' vocabulary to ensure they have the skills and words needed to express themselves on paper.

A few being, introducing students to healthy recipes, giving students access to new foods/cultures they may not come across in their daily lives, and introducing students to a career path they may not have considered before. During the programming cycle each season, students will learn about food history, technical skills, and culinary through a business lens. Bringing entrepreneurship into the culinary program helped students see the endless possibilities cooking can lead to. Owning a restaurant, opening a catering business, and more! Cooking has helped students learn about budgeting, chemistry & food science. It has also helped our youth hone in one their math skills when it comes to metric conversions as well as fractions! To help students peak their interests in culinary at least one week per session we encourage youth to bring in any recipes they have been wanting to try or maybe have seen go “viral” they would like to cook themselves. Giving students their own voices in the kitchen has made this course very popular among high school students. In the upcoming 2023 school year we will introduce our Elementary aged students.
To teach youth how to effectively combat stress, by activating the body’s natural relaxation response. Techniques such as deep breathing, visualization, meditation, and yoga can help accomplish that. Yoga provides a calming outlet of relaxation to our students. Students go through beginner yoga routines and will continue learning more advanced poses as the programming cycle continues. Students also each receive journals they are able to customize and write their thoughts out in. Journal exercises such as letters of release and forgiveness, inner child workshops, positive interventions, and gratitude journaling will also be given to help students heal from and cope from difficulties/traumas experienced.
